Description

1908-S Five Dollar, MS61
Smooth, Luminous Surfaces

1908-S $5 MS61 NGC. The 1908-S Indian Head five boasts a small mintage of 82,000 coins. It is a recognized semikey date with a small Mint State population, although most Uncirculated coins are well-dispersed over many numeric grades. This example is near the low end of the spectrum, making it accessible by budget-restricted collectors. The strike is bold, and the surfaces are smooth -- far smoother than expected for an MS61 Indian. We detect only some light slide marks that limit the grade. This piece displays warm olive-gold luster with hints of rose-orange in the recesses.(Registry values: N1793)
