Rich Orange-Gold Gem 1909 Half Eagle

1909 $5 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1909 Indian half eagle is a second-year issue that is generally available for a price even up to the Gem level, but it is exceptionally elusive any finer. The year was notable for the last O-mint gold coinage, the low-mintage 1909-O, but Philadelphia managed to strike a respectable 627,060 business strikes. The present Gem boasts rich orange-gold surfaces that show occasional accents of lilac. The obverse is fully struck, and strike softness on the reverse is confined to the top of the eagle's wing. No noticeable abrasions mar the considerable aesthetic appeal. PCGS has seen only seven submissions in finer grades (12/11).(Registry values: N4719)
