1909 $5 MS65 PCGS. From a hefty reported mintage of 627,060 pieces, the 1909 Indian Head half eagle is easily located in all grades today. The issue enjoys great popularity as a type coin, due to its availability in Mint State. A PCGS-graded MS66 example sold for $51,750 in 2006. The present coin is a delightful high-end specimen, with deep rose-gold color interspersed with lilac on each side. Fully struck, with deeply impressed design elements and unusually clean surfaces.
