Description
1909 Half Eagle, MS65, Perfect Type Coin
1909 $5 MS65 PCGS. The 1909 half eagle is an excellent type coin, one of the more available issues of the Indian Head series in most grades. That availability is due to the healthy mintage of more than 627,000 pieces, and apparently a good survival rate, up through the lower Mint State grades. Most certified survivors fall in the MS61-MS64 range, however. The number of certified Gems is far less, by an order of magnitude. This is a perfect coin to represent the type or date, a fully struck Gem with no obvious marks in the fields or on the devices. The coloration is an even reddish-golden-yellow throughout. Population: 83 in 65, 7 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DH, PCGS# 8513, GSID# 9309)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
