Description

Satiny Gem Mint State 1909 Half Eagle

1909 $5 MS66 PCGS. A fully struck and exceptional coin for this date. The Indian half eagle series has several very elusive dates, and even dates with generous mintages can be quite rare in Gem grades. A case in point would be this 1909 half eagle. Despite the plentiful mintage of 627,060 struck, only a handful qualify as Gems today, and in this next grading tier, a total of six coins have been awarded the MS66 moniker from either NGC or PCGS. No examples of this date have been graded finer than the present coin. We note a couple of trivial ticks near the twelfth star, and another at the top of the Chief's headdress below the IB of LIBERTY. On the reverse there is a minor reeding mark below the ME of AMERICA and these ticks will serve to identify this pristine coin. An opportunity to put away a classic example of a condition rarity worthy of the finest collection.
