Description
Satiny MS66 1909 Half Eagle
1909 $5 MS66 PCGS. Although the 1909 Indian Head half eagles are not series rarities, Akers points out in his recent Handbook that the issue is "virtually unobtainable above the MS-65 grade level." Of course, many collectors would be more than proud to own a Gem Indian five dollar, but this Premium Gem piece goes one better. The color is a consistent, mellow orange-gold throughout both sides, neither of which shows mentionable distractions, large or small. The strike is much better executed than normal, and the thick, satiny luster is a plus. This coin is one of only eight Premium Gem examples certified at PCGS, and there are none finer (9/09).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DH, PCGS# 8513, Greysheet# 9309)
