Description

Satiny 1909 Half Eagle, MS66

1909 $5 MS66 PCGS. Although the 1909 Indian Head half eagles are not series rarities, Akers' recent Handbook points out that the issue is "virtually unobtainable above the MS-65 grade level." Of course, many collectors would be more than proud to own a Gem Indian five dollar, but this Premium Gem piece goes one better. The color is a consistent, mellow orange-gold throughout both sides, with no mentionable distractions, large or small. The strike is much better-executed than normal, and the thick satin luster is a plus. This coin is one of only eight Premium Gem examples certified at PCGS, and there are none finer (2/10).(Registry values: N7079)
