Description

Impressive Gem 1909-D Half Eagle

1909-D $5 MS65 NGC. The 1909-D is one of just two Indian half eagles with a mintage of over a million pieces, and its tally of more than 3.4 million coins more than doubles its rival. It is little wonder that the 1909-D should be an important type issue, and indeed it is a "date of choice" in many grades, even MS65, where it is merely scarce and not rare. This Gem has strong yellow-gold luster with elements of wheat at the margins. Die erosion is noted at the margins, but the overall definition is excellent, with only the lowest pendant of the necklace soft. Carefully preserved with great eye appeal. Census: 65 in 65, 2 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
