Gem Mint State 1909-D Half Eagle

1909-D $5 MS65 PCGS. Although this date is clearly the most common of the Indian half eagle series, it is a condition rarity in Gem quality, as are all dates of this type. The mintage of nearly 3.5 million coins is well more than double the next closest issue, the 1911-S with 1.4 million coins minted. These two dates are the sole entries in the list of 1 million plus mintages for the entire series. This piece is sharply struck with rich honey-gold luster and frosty obverse and reverse surfaces. It is an exceptional example for the date and type, a coin for the connoisseur who appreciates the finest. Population: 74 in 65, 5 finer (12/06).(Registry values: N4719)
