Description
1909-D Half Eagle, MS65+
CAC Approved
1909-D $5 MS65+ PCGS. CAC. The 1909-D boasts the highest
mintage in the Indian half eagle series at more than 3.4 million
coins, it being one of only two dates to breach the seven-figure
production total. As a result, examples are plentiful for type
purposes through MS64. In MS65, this issue is still available,
although the population drops off dramatically. The current piece stands out among its peers as one of only seven Gems at PCGS to earn a Plus designation, and one of 18 Gems overall to carry CAC endorsement. PCGS and NGC combined report only eight finer pieces (1/25). Bright honey-gold mint luster adorns sharp motifs and satiny fields, with only minute surface marks discernible with a loupe.(Registry values: N4719)
