Description

1909-D Half Eagle, MS66
Important Condition Rarity

1909-D $5 MS66 PCGS. The 1909-D half eagle is a popular issue for type collectors, having the highest mintage in the series. The production of more than 3.4 million coins was more than double the second highest mintage of 1.4 million for the 1911-S. Those are the only two issues that have seven-figure mintages. In grades of MS64 and better, the PCGS population of the 1909-D is nearly triple the second highest population for the 1908 half eagle. However, the MS66 population of this issue is limited to just eight coins at PCGS and NGC combined, with none finer. PCGS CoinFacts reports just four auction appearances of this issue in MS66 PCGS, dating to 2002. This frosty and highly lustrous Premium Gem exhibits virtually flawless surfaces and bold design definition. The surfaces present peach and rose-gold with hints of mint-green. Population: 5 in 66, 0 finer (11/24).
