Description
1909-O Half Eagle, AU55
Key Final New Orleans Date
1909-O $5 AU55 NGC. Winter-1. The 1909-O Indian half eagle
comes from a mintage of only 34,200 coins. While it is not quite
the rarest date in the series overall, it is the conditionally
rarest in Mint State, making high-end AU coins highly sought after.
For the New Orleans gold collector, this is the only date to
feature Bela Lyon Pratt's Indian Head design. The mintmark is clear on this Choice AU example, despite light wear over the elevated fields. Remnants of luster glow in the recessed devices, while the fields show scattered light abrasions that accompany the grade. Overall, minimal marks are not bothersome, and the eye appeal is pleasing for an AU-level Indian half eagle.(Registry values: N2998)
