Description

Appealing Choice AU 1909-O Half Eagle

1909-O $5 AU55 NGC. The 1909-O five dollar was an anachronism produced at the decrepit New Orleans Mint, the last gasp of an antebellum Southern facility that had been in varying states of dangerous disrepair for decades. The key to the Indian Head half eagle set, the 1909-O was produced to the extent of only 34,200 pieces. This example has a bold mintmark; the antique-gold surfaces elsewhere display broad eye appeal, with only light, grade-consistent high-point rub and no singular marks.(Registry values: N2998)
