    Description

    1909-O Half Eagle, Near-Mint
    Key to the Series

1909-O $5 AU58 NGC. It has been more than a century since the New Orleans Mint ceased coining operations, but time has only deepened collector enthusiasm for its products. The last gold coins manufactured in the Crescent City, half eagles bearing Bela Lyon Pratt's sunken-relief design, are popular as key dates within their series as well as for their Southern gold connection. This near-Mint representative has just a whisper of wear on still-lustrous sun-gold surfaces that show hints of orange. The coin's minor abrasions are scattered on each side, as usual for a layout that has no true focal areas.(Registry values: N2998)
