Description

Mint State 1909-O Indian Five, MS60

1909-O $5 MS60 NGC. The '09-O five appeals to many with its historical and numismatic significance. Struck during the final year of operation at the New Orleans Mint before that facility permanently stopped the coining presses, it is also the only Indian gold coin of any denomination struck in Louisiana. The mintage of just 34,200 coins and the release of most or all into circulation means that few have survived in Mint State grades. This piece has light yellow color with full mint brilliance and splashes of deeper rose toning on both sides. The mintmark is clear and sharp, a further important consideration when seeking an example of this issue.(Registry values: N4719)
