Description

Vibrant Choice XF 1909-O Half Eagle
Mintage 34,200 Pieces

1909-O $5 XF45 PCGS. The memorably low mintage of the 1909-O half eagle was 34,200 coins, propelling the issue to the top of the rarity rankings for the series, although some other issues are rarer in the highest Mint State grades. But the 1909-O half eagle is rare in all grades, and in constant demand. This Choice XF example displays a lot of life and vibrancy for the grade. Antique-gold surfaces show light wear confined to the high points--the highest elements of the headdress and the Indian's cheek on the obverse, the forward wing tip on the reverse--but much life and luster remain, with minimal evidence of contact. The mintmark is clear, but not bold.(Registry values: N1793)
