Description
1909-S $5 MS 64 PCGS. A simply incredible example of this elusive S-mint Indian half eagle. This coin has just about everything going for it: absolute rarity, condition rarity in Mint State, and excellent visual appeal. Superbly struck and virtually mark-free, the satin-like surfaces show medium pink-orange and gold color. Both sides are free of detracting copper spots. The 1909-S is among the rarest dates in the Indian Head half eagle series, with Akers estimating that no more than 20 pieces exist in MS 64 or better condition. Indeed, only three coins have graded higher at both of the major grading services. This coin deserves serious consideration by gold specialists.
