Description

1909-S Half Eagle, MS63
Incredibly Elusive in This Grade

1909-S $5 MS63 NGC. A sharp strike and clear mintmark are key attributes of this piece, setting it apart from many of its similarly graded counterparts. Warm peach-gold luster adorns each side, minimal abrasions appear in the fields beneath a loupe. Overall eye appeal is excellent. The 1909-S boasts a mintage of 297,000 pieces, but these coins circulated to a greater extent than some later dates, leaving attractive Mint State coins scarce. Examples are scarce in MS63, and anything finer is a major rarity out of reach for most collectors. Census: 8 in 63, 12 finer (4/24).(Registry values: N4719)
