Description
1909-S Half Eagle, MS63
Seemingly Underrated Issue
1909-S $5 MS63 PCGS. Somewhat overshadowed by the key-date
1909-O, the 1909-S is actually a significant condition rarity in
its own right. The date boasts one of the lowest Mint State
population totals in the series and is most often found in MS62 or
lower grades. At the MS63 level the 1909-S becomes genuinely rare,
with finer pieces rarer still. This representative exhibits the
crisp, razor-sharp strike that this San Francisco issue is admired
for, with satiny golden luster and unusually clean fields for the
grade. The collector will be hard-pressed to locate a visually or
technically finer example. Population: 28 in 63, 20 finer
(9/14).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25ZL, PCGS# 8516, GSID# 9321)
