Description
1911 Half Eagle, MS65
Above-Average Eye Appeal
Excellent for Type
1911 $5 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1911, from a mintage approaching
1 million pieces, is one of the more plentiful issues in the Indian
Head half eagle series and a popular choice of type collections. It
is also among the poorest-struck, lusterless, and abraded dates in
the series. The present Gem exhibits a stronger strike than usually
seen, including well-defined headdress feathers and the eagle's
shoulder feathers. Both sides yield pleasing luster with even
reddish-gold color, and the coin has been well cared for over the
past century. A couple of light reverse field marks are lighter
than would be expected for a MS65. The above-average eye appeal is
duly recognized by CAC. Population: 51 in 65 (2 in 65+), 1 finer
(11/13).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DP, PCGS# 8520, Greysheet# 9311)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
