Description

Attractive, Colorful MS65 1912 Five Dollar

1912 $5 MS65 PCGS. Because of the conditional scarcity of Indian half eagles and the subsequent high prices these pieces command when offered at public auction, most collectors have rethought their collecting strategy and included MS64 coins rather than the Gems that might be sought in other series. The 1912 is one of the few issues of this type that is relatively available as a Gem. It is therefore a coin that can be used for type purposes as well. According to the November population data from both PCGS and NGC, a total of 74 coins have been certified in MS65, but only three are finer (all NGC). The fragile surfaces of this piece are barely abraded, and each side displays generous amounts of rose-gold and lilac patina with strong underlying mint frost. A well struck example of this so-called "common" date in the five dollar Indian series.
