Description
1912-S Indian Half Eagle, MS63
Important Condition Rarity
1912-S $5 MS63 PCGS. In their Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold
Coins, Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth discuss the importance of this
issue: "One of the classic rarities and most difficult issues to
obtain in Mint State, the 1912-S issue has earned its reputation,
which is quite a feat considering the number of rarities among the
Indian Head half eagle series." Although somewhat softly struck as
always, this example is highly lustrous with brilliant yellow-gold
surfaces accented by a trace of the lightest pink toning possible.
The surfaces on both sides have a few light ticks, as expected for
the grade. This is an exceptional and highly desirable example.
