Delightfully Colored MS65 1913 Indian Half Eagle
Only One Coin Finer at PCGS

1913 $5 MS65 PCGS. The color is a delight on this stunning Gem Indian Head half eagle, ranging from the predominant deep orange-red to pinkish-gold on some of the obverse highpoints. The reverse, with its considerably more open fields, blends in dollops of hazel-gray in the exposed areas. The 1913 is another popular P-mint for collectors seeking a Gem of the Indian Head type, due to its combination of good strike and appealing luster. Such is the case here, with a remarkable paucity of mentionable abrasions complementing the bold impression and generous luster emanating from the deeply colored surfaces. Although PCGS has seen 48 certification events of this issue, only a single piece has surpassed it at that service--one MS66--while NGC has seen six coins at that level (7/07).
