    1913-S Half Eagle, Eye-Appealing MS63
Very Scarce at This Grade Level

1913-S $5 MS63 PCGS. The 1913-S half eagle is scarce at this grade level, as witnessed by the meager 49 submissions at PCGS with but 16 finer (1/13). Even though more than 408,000 pieces were struck, the average grade of certified examples is only Choice AU. This is a splendid-looking example of the issue, boasting excellent luster over bright orange-gold surfaces. A few stray marks include one on the Indian's cheek, one hidden in the lower headdress feathers, and a third in the obverse field that account for the grade, but they are hardly distracting. The reverse is well-preserved and both sides display a sharp strike, lending excellent eye appeal.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25ZP, PCGS# 8526)
