Description
1914 Half Eagle, MS65 CAC
Just Five Finer
1914 $5 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1914 Philadelphia mintage was
the lowest from the branch mint for the Indian Head design's
history, with just 247,000 pieces distributed. The low mintage,
coupled with poor handling, left much of the circulated issues
heavily worn or frequently bag marked, making finding higher-grade
examples increasingly more difficult. This example displays enrapturing rich orange-gold and marigold-yellow luster with lighter notes of silver toning. The piece is boldly struck with brilliantly defined devices, while a slight abrasion along the Indian's cheek is the only obfuscation from a higher grade. PCGS has seen just 40 examples in Gem Uncirculated, two of which are MS65+, while just three have been seen in Premium Gem (3/26).(Registry values: N4719)
