Description

1914-S Half Eagle, MS63
An Important Condition Rarity

1914-S $5 MS63 PCGS. The 1914-S, from a mintage of 263,000 pieces, is an important condition rarity in the Indian half eagle series. It is actually the most difficult and rarest issue of the series to locate in near-Gem and finer grades. In fact, the finest certified is an NGC MS65. Even Select specimens such as the present offering are elusive; PCGS and NGC have graded fewer than 50 MS63s and 15 finer.

Lustrous yellow-gold surfaces display apricot and reddish accents. The design elements are well-struck, including the Indian's headdress and the eagle's plumage. Both sides are quite clean for the designated grade. All in all, this piece yields nice eye appeal. Population: 41 in 63, 8 finer (9/13).(Registry values: N4719)
