Description
1914-S Indian Half Eagle, MS63
Elusive Issue in High Grade
1914-S $5 MS63 PCGS. Although 1914-S half eagles often
display slightly dull and granular surfaces, this Select
Uncirculated example is brightly lustrous with smooth and pleasing
orange-gold fields surrounding bold devices. Fewer contact marks
exist than expected for the grade and eye appeal is altogether much
stronger than usually seen for this conditionally rare San
Francisco issue. The 1914-S Indian half eagle claims an adequate
mintage of 263,000 pieces, but the issue is far more elusive than
that production total would suggest in high grade. PCGS reports
only nine numerically finer examples plus three pieces in 63+
(10/25).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DW, PCGS# 8529, Greysheet# 9329)
