Description
Gorgeous 1915 Gem Five Dollar
1915 $5 MS65 NGC. The 1915, from a mintage of 588,000 pieces, is one of the more common Indian Head half eagles. Mint State examples are readily available through the near-Gem level of preservation. The certified population drops significantly in MS65, and neither NGC or PCGS has seen any specimens finer. An exacting strike manifests itself in crisp definition on the design elements, and rich apricot-gold patination is imbued with splashes of lavender, mint-green, and violet, somewhat more so on the obverse. Frosty luster envelops both sides, each of which reveals just a few minor marks that barely prevent an even higher grade. Census: 37 in 65, 0 finer (4/09).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DX, PCGS# 8530, Greysheet# 9315)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
