Description

1915 Half Eagle, Elusive MS65

1915 $5 MS65 NGC. The 1915 half eagle is the next-to-last series issue struck at the Philadelphia Mint. At the Gem level, the 1915 is surprisingly elusive compared to several earlier P-mint emissions, such as the 1908-09 issues and the 1911 (the 1910 is also an underrated rarity). Pale yellow-gold luster is flashy and a dominant force in the eye appeal. Only later does the viewer appreciate the sharpness on the Indian's necklace, for example. A couple of small ticks are present just above the top feather in the headdress, but otherwise the surfaces are minimally marked. Neither NGC nor PCGS has ever seen a submission above the Gem level. Census: 39 in MS65, 0 finer (5/11).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DX, PCGS# 8530, Greysheet# 9315)
