Description

Gorgeous 1915-S Five Dollar, MS64

1915-S $5 MS64 PCGS. The relatively low mintage 1915-S half eagle (164,000 pieces) is elusive in all grades, particularly so in Mint State, where approximately 280 coins are reported by PCGS and NGC. These two services combined have seen just 18 near-Gems, and a solitary piece finer.
Both sides of the MS64 example in this lot are awash with potent luster, and display a rich blend of apricot-gold and mint-green color. A well executed strike results in sharp definition on the design features, including the Indian's hair and feathers in the headdress, and the eagle's plumage. A few minor marks keep from full Gem status, but a gorgeous specimen nevertheless. Population: 9 in 64, 0 finer (7/07).
