Description
Desirable Gem 1916-S Indian Five
1916-S $5 MS65 NGC. CAC. San Francisco Indian half eagles are known for their difficultly to locate in quality Mint State. Even the 1911-S, which has a mintage of 1.416 million coins, is very rare as a Gem. The 1916-S was the final branch mint issue of the series, and much of the mintage may have been melted by the Treasury, although to a degree less than the 1920-S ten and twenty. The present beautiful, shimmering representative is unlike the lackluster '16-S usually encountered. Apricot-gold throughout save for an area of subtle gray beneath the TY in LIBERTY. Evenly struck and attractive. Census: 9 in 65, 2 finer (6/09).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DY, PCGS# 8532, Greysheet# 9331)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
