Description

Fantastic Gem 1916-S Five

1916-S $5 MS65 NGC. Though the 1916-S is not widely recognized as one of the Indian half eagle issues that is a condition rarity in Mint State, simple perusal of the Guide Book suggests that it is a "better" issue, if not on par with highlights such as the 1929 or 1909-O. At the Gem level, of course, virtually any Indian five is a condition rarity, and the 1916-S is hardly an exception. This tantalizing coin is immensely lustrous with uncommonly crisp detail. The surfaces are generally wheat-gold, though an area of subtly deeper orange-gold appears close to the date. Marvelous visual appeal and a great candidate for the high-end series enthusiast. Census: 9 in 65, 2 finer (10/08).(Registry values: N7079)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DY, PCGS# 8532, Greysheet# 9331)
