Description
Gem Mint State 1916-S Half Eagle
1916-S $5 MS65 PCGS. Advanced collectors of Indian Head half eagles seldom have an opportunity to acquire such a fine quality example of this date as only a few Gem pieces are known. This specimen has rich orange and rose colored gold surfaces with frosty luster. It is well struck with sharp obverse and reverse details throughout. A rather large hoard of these coins was discovered a number of years ago, but nearly all pieces from that hoard were at the lowest Mint State grade levels. This example, apparently not from the hoard, is an aesthetically superior Gem. Population: 8 in 65, 3 finer (11/06).From The Kutasi Collection.(Registry values: N7079)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DY, PCGS# 8532, Greysheet# 9331)
