    1929 Half Eagle, MS62
    Heavily Melted Late-Series Key

1929 $5 MS62 PCGS. The 1929 Indian half eagle had a fairly substantial mintage of 662,000 pieces, but the coins were largely unneeded in commerce, and most remained in Treasury vaults when President Roosevelt confiscated all non-collectible gold coins in 1933. This fate was shared by the double eagle of the same year, and the half eagle is equally as elusive and widely sought-after. Not unlike its double eagle counterpart, the 1929 half eagle is typically seen in Mint State grades, and usually exhibits well-defined motifs. This piece does not disappoint in that regard, and also displays satiny bronze-gold luster. Light, scattered abrasions defined the grade, but none are individually detracting. A must-have, key-date coin for the Indian half eagle specialist.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28E2, PCGS# 8533)
