Description

1908-S Indian Head Five, MS65
Beautiful Luster, Great Eye Appeal

1908-S $5 MS65 PCGS. In terms of low mintage, the 1908-S Indian five trails only the 1909-O and the 1911-D. In Gem Mint State, the exceedingly well-produced 1908-S is comparatively available, which is a great thing for collectors. Several other San Francisco issues offer significantly higher mintages, but are much rarer in high Uncirculated grades -- namely the 1912-S, 1914-S, and 1915-S.

This Gem 1908-S is exceptionally attractive. High-luster surfaces alternate orange- and reddish-gold accents, with lilac overtones. A crisp strike weakens slightly at the lower headdress feathers an at the eagle's shoulder, but all else is sharp. Only a few tiny ticks are seen with a glass. The eye appeal is terrific. Population: 51 in 65 (1 in 65+), 20 finer (3/19).(Registry values: N7079)
