1916-S $5 MS66 PCGS. Ex: Simpson. The 1916-S is famously the only half eagle struck at any mint in 1916, and it represents the last coinage of the denomination until 1929. Mint State survivors are often seen at auction, but the vast majority grade no finer than MS63, with occasional appearances of MS64 coins. In Gem condition, the 1916-S five is a distinguished rarity, and only a handful of finer pieces are known.

Luster glistens beneath satiny rose-gold and peach-orange hues, complementing well-struck devices and clean fields. Eye appeal is outstanding, and it may be years before a comparable example of this conditionally elusive date becomes available.
