1909 Quarter Eagle, Richly Toned MS66
    Unknown in Higher Grades

1909 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Big Sky Collection. Rich orange-gold patina imbued with whispers of yellowish-green and reddish-gold resides on the lustrous surfaces of this magnificent Premium Gem. The design features are sharply impressed, including the headdress feathers and all of the eagle's plumage. Neither side reveals mentionable contact marks or Mint-made spots, blemishes that occur on most survivors of this issue. The outstanding eye apeal is affirmed by the CAC endorsement.

Population Data (9/15): PCGS and NGC report 18 and 26 submissions in MS66, respectively, with none finer at either service. This piece is among five in this grade with the CAC approval.

Heritage Commentary: The 1909 quarter eagle can be located through near-Gem with relatively little difficulty. This date becomes challenging in Gem and rare in Premium Gem. As the population reports indicate, higher-grade coins are unknown.

    Provenance: Purchased from Legend Numismatics (4/2012).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 288Z, PCGS# 7940)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
