Description
Uncirculated 1911-D Two and a Half
Cornerstone of the Series
1911-D $2 1/2 MS60 NGC. The 1911-D quarter eagle seems to
have more "share of mind" in the marketplace than its half eagle
and eagle counterparts, perhaps because it is the single key to its
series, while there are multiple keys for the Indian Head half
eagles and eagles. As the key to the quarter eagle set, this 1911-D
is sure to find a good new home with some proud owner. It would
also be a nice acquisition for a 20th century gold type set
composed strictly of the four 1911-D gold issues. Either the type
set or complete quarter eagle set would be a doable challenge and a
glorious accomplishment. This well-struck example displays even
yellow-gold color over each side. The diagnostic partial wire rim
from 12 to 5 o'clock on the obverse is abundantly evident. A scrape
from 9 to 11 o'clock on the inner portion of the obverse is the
only detracting (and grade-limiting) surface flaw.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# EGZ7, PCGS# 7943, GSID# 8615)
