Uncirculated 1911-D Two and a Half

1911-D $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Among the 20th century gold series struck for circulation, only the Indian quarter eagle can be completed by date and mint by the collector of average means. There is no 1933 double eagle, 1933 eagle, or 1929 half eagle to deny completion. There is the 1911-D, the famous key to the Indian quarter eagle series, but with patience and some savings it can be acquired, even in Mint State. This luminous apricot-gold example has a bold mintmark and an assertive strike. The gently shimmering surfaces are surprisingly unabraded. Housed in a former generation holder.(Registry values: N2998)
