Coveted 1911-D Quarter Eagle MS62 NGC

1911-D $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. The availability of most Indian Quarter Eagle issues in Mint State has inspired many numismatists to form a collection of the series. The major obstacle to completion is the 1911-D, which has a mintage of only 55,680 pieces. To put that figure into perspective, the 1916-D Dime, which has a nearly identical diameter and was struck the same decade, has a mintage of 265,000 pieces, nearly five times higher than the production of the 1911-D Quarter Eagle. There simply aren't enough examples of either key date to complete all the collections begun of their respective series, and that is why Uncirculated survivors are subject to tremendous demand. The present orange-gold piece is well struck for the issue, and features a bold mintmark. A couple of light marks are present on the lower obverse field, but on the whole, the surfaces are certainly clean for the grade.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 7KR7, PCGS# 7943)
