    Description

Bright, Sparkling MS62 1911-D Quarter Eagle

1911-D $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. The surfaces of this important key issue are bright and sparkle with radiant mint luster. As with the other MS62 offered below, the striking details are very well defined on this piece and the mintmark is well-formed. It is always easy to say a coin would grade finer if only some flaw were not present. On this particular coin that statement is especially compelling. The sparkling surfaces give one the impression of a much finer grade. However, close examination reveals why this piece is limited to the MS62 category. A long, thin scratch runs from the upper part of the headdress to the T in LIBERTY on the obverse, and on the reverse there is a prominent scratch above the eagle's head that picks up again in the field behind the head.(#7943) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 7KR7, PCGS# 7943)
