Description

Well Defined 1911-D Quarter Eagle, MS62

1911-D $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. The 1911-D is the undisputed key to the Indian Head quarter eagle series. Fuljenz and Winter write in their A Collector's Guide to Indian Quarter Eagles that there are a number of other factors that make it the single most desirable coin in the set:

"It has the lowest mintage by a huge margin and is the only issue whose mintage is below 100,000. It is the first Indian Head Quarter Eagle to be produced at a mint other than Philadelphia and one of just three non-Philadelphia issues of this design."

The lustrous brass-gold surfaces of this MS62 coin exhibit well struck design elements, including most of the feathers in the bonnet and on the eagle. The mintmark is strong. A few light marks are noted, including a hair-thin one in the upper right reverse field. Nevertheless, a nice looking coin overall.
