Description

Desirable 1911-D Quarter Eagle, MS62

1911-D $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. The 1911-D is a noteworthy key for the Indian quarter eagle series, not only for its status as the lowest-mintage issue but for the distance between its production and that of the next-lowest issue. With just 55,680 pieces struck, the 1911-D has a mintage less than one-quarter that of the 1914, a sizable gap.
This subtly lustrous example's lightly abraded surfaces are a particularly vibrant shade of butter-yellow. The devices are boldly impressed, even the three pendants on the obverse, and the overall eye appeal is substantial for the grade. Numismatists who are beginning a date set often are encouraged to purchase the key date first, and for the well-heeled collector interested in the series, this 1911-D quarter eagle would make an excellent cornerstone.(Registry values: N4719)
