Description
Key 1911-D Quarter Eagle, MS62
1911-D $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. After "buy the book, not the coin," one of the most frequently dispensed pieces of numismatic advice is "buy the key dates first." The logic is that the most challenging issues are the ones most likely to appreciate in value, and that purchasing the most elusive coins first can avoid a common pitfall: the nearly-completed set that stays unfinished because the key date in the grade the collector wants is priced out of reach. For the collector wishing to buy the key first and set the tone for his or her future set (or the one who took the opposite route), this 1911-D is a strong candidate. The sun-gold surfaces are luminous with a touch of satin, and the devices are well-defined. Light abrasions on and near the portrait account for the grade, though the overall visual appeal is strong.(Registry values: N4719)
