Key Date 1911-D Quarter Eagle, A High End BU Example

1911-D $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. With a limited original mintage of 55,680 pieces, the 1911-D is the undisputed key to the eminently collectible Indian Quarter Eagle series. The sharp striking definition is perhaps most significant over the D mintmark, but the overall appearance of the devices helps to give this coin above average eye appeal for the MS62 designation. Rich orange-gold color envelops both sides with tinges of pale reddish-gold hues evident here and there. The satiny, moderately rippling sheen appears smooth enough to warrant a higher grade. Housed in a first generation PCGS slab, and worthy of careful bidder consideration. (NGC ID# 7KR7, PCGS# 7943)

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
