    Select 1911-D Quarter Eagle
    Sparkling and Sharply Struck

1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 NGC. The 1911-D is the undisputed key to the Indian Head quarter eagle series, and one of only three mintmarked quarter eagles in the entire series along with the 1914-D and 1925-D. The San Francisco Mint never produced an Indian Head quarter eagle in the 22-year series run. The 1911-D, with its low mintage of only 55,680 coins, is foundationally rare, or rare in all grades. But the 1914-D quarter eagle, with a larger mintage of 448,000 coins, is conditionally rare: common in circulated grades, but rarer than the 1911-D only in the higher Mint State levels (at or above MS65). Interestingly, the last D-mint issue, the 1925-D, is collected as one of the four type issues, along with the 1926-28 Philadelphia strikes. This is a remarkably attractive piece, especially for the grade. The surfaces lack the larger abrasions that usually explain an MS63 coin. The mint luster is softly frosted and unbroken over the high points of the design.
