    1911-D Two and a Half, Lustrous MS63
    Solid Example for the Grade

1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 NGC. The Denver Mint produced all four authorized gold denominations in 1911, from quarter eagle through double eagle. The Saint-Gaudens 1911-D double eagle is fairly common within the series context, but the three lower-denomination gold issues are each a key to their series. The difference is, that the 1911-D quarter eagle is the sole key to the set, while the 1911-D half eagle and eagle are each among numerous key issues within those series. The 1911-D half eagle competes for top honors with the 1909-O and several conditionally rare S-mint fives, while the Indian eagle set hosts a range of issues from tricky to impossible. All of the foregoing serves to make the 1911-D quarter eagle a notable, popular, and singular rarity, even though most of our Signature auctions feature numerous examples. This is a bright, lustrous, well-struck example of this key issue that has very few abrasions to account for the grade. This would be an excellent representative for the collector assembling a well-balanced MS63 set.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 7KR7, PCGS# 7943)
