    1911-D Two and a Half, MS63
Rich Color and Bright Mint Luster

1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 NGC. The old numismatic saw goes, "Buy the keys first," but as coin (and precious metals) prices have generally been on an upward slope for quite a number of years, there are increasing numbers of collectors who no longer complete entire sets of a single series. The new collecting approach comes out in the "Box of 20" style of numismatics, buying the best (or most beautiful, most costly, most key dates, most rare ... add your own personal attributes) 20 coins a collector can obtain. Some claim that numismatists who complete sets are collectors, while those who purchase "only key coins" are closet investors. In any case, the 1911-D quarter eagle appeals to many camps, as both series completists and key-date buyers need to obtain one for their collections. This is a rich orange-gold example that displays thick, sparkling mint luster. The main deterrent to an even higher grade are a couple of marks in the left obverse field.(Registry values: N4719)
