    Near-Gem 1911-D Quarter Eagle
    The Definitive Low-Mintage Key

1911-D $2 1/2 MS64 PCGS. CAC. In terms of mintage, no Pratt quarter eagle date can compete with the 1911-D quarter eagle, which, at 55,680 pieces, has less than a quarter of the production of its closest rival, the 1914 (240,000 coins). While high-end examples such as this near-Gem appear on the market periodically, the price can be steep, especially when the coin is this attractive. Softly sweeping luster switches between apricot and peach, depending on the angle to the light, and aside from a few cuts near the profile, this well-defined coin has few significant abrasions. PCGS has graded only 18 coins in MS65 and better (2/12).
