Description
1911-D Two and a Half, MS65
Famous Indian Gold Key
Bold D Mintmark, Seldom Any Finer
1911-D $2 1/2 MS65 NGC. Bold D Mintmark. The 55,680-piece
mintage is by far the Indian quarter eagle series' lowest, making
the 1911-D the key regardless of grade. At the Gem Uncirculated
level, the low mintage adds value despite the 1911-D being only
slightly rarer than the 1914 and 1914-D issues in Gem or finer
grades. A pronounced wire rim exists at the upper-right obverse,
diagnostic of a genuine 1911-D coin. This splendid Gem features a
full, Bold D mintmark on the reverse. Smooth orange-gold satin
luster emphasizes this coin's virtually unmarked fields and sharply
struck motifs. In addition to the strong mintmark, the eagle's
shoulder, leg, and tail feathering are razor-sharp and the Indian's
headdress is well-defined throughout. This sharp and attractive
1911-D appears high-end for its MS65 grade and offers an excellent
capstone to any finely formed Indian quarter eagle collection. NGC
